Title: Mapping class groups from TQFT
Abstract: We give a motivated definition of TQFT as a monoidal functor, and present an interesting example using Reshetikhin-Turaev construction with single parameter q. We show how this provides representations of mapping class groups of two-dimensional surfaces. Two equivalent esentations appear in this way: by operators on finite-dimensional vector spaces and by automorphisms of certain algebras. We show that representations of second type admit generalization to generic complex values of the parameter q.
